This article talks about security cameras and some of the things you need to consider when getting one.

Coming home to a house, store or business and finding out that it has been robbed is devastating.  Preventing this from ever happening is incredibly important and installing security systems in your home, store or business is one of the best ways to protect not only your house and possessions, but also yourself and your family.

One of the most critical parts of a security system is the security camera. If something where to happen to anything while you were away from whatever you are trying to secure, having a camera there will increase the chance of getting your things back as well as catching the person who stole from you.

There are many different types of surveillance systems that include the use of a VCR, TV monitor, DVR and PC.  Once you figure out the best system for your needs, the next thing you need to think of is the type of camera you need for your system.

Fixed focal length cameras are the typical type of camera used in most security systems. The reason for this is because variable focal lens cameras are considerably more expensive and not easy to use as fixed focal length cameras.

Because you are probably working with a fixed focal length camera, you have to figure out the distance of the area you are trying to record.  This is how far away you think the target will be.  This doesn’t have to be exact; you just have to get it in the right area.  You also have to worry about the width of the target area as well.  Hallways are much narrower then bedrooms or living rooms. You want a lens wide enough to record what is going on, but going too wide can distort the image.

Video quality is very important as well, but the better the video quality of the camera, the more expensive it is.  It isn’t necessary to have a camera that can record things super clear you just need a camera that can record what is going on, clear enough to be able to tell what is going on.

Security for any purpose, weather it is for the home, the store or for a business is very important.  Being able to record what is going on is a very valuable feature to a security system.  If something ever does happen, you always have that option to review what happened and hopefully find a solution to whatever problem occurs.
