Do you know how secure your garage is? Did you know that the garage is a favorite way for burglars to get into your home? They love garages because most people have a lot of valuable items stored in there such as cars, bikes, lawnmowers and other equipment that is expensive.
Plus, once they get into the garage they can easily break into the rest of the house through a connecting door without being detected. So, as you can see, security for your garage is just as important as the rest of the house. Here are some garage security tips that will help you.
One: You have to have a good garage door opener. The best kind is the electric garage door openers because these are a lot more difficult for burglars to get through. Just make sure you change the combination right after it is installed because some burglars know how to get around these doors if the combination is left the same as when it comes out of the factory with their code.
Two: Choose a combination for your garage door opener that is easy for you to remember but that would be difficult for anyone to guess. You might want to change the combination for your garage every few months just for extra garage security.
Three: Make sure that there are no weak spots in your garage door that burglars can pry open easily. If you notice anything you want to get it fixed right away.
Four: Some garages have windows. If your garage is one of them then you need to make sure that your windows are kept locked or put bars on them to prevent anyone from using them to get into your home.
Five: With most houses there is a door that connects the house to the garage. This is one part of security for garages that you want to make sure is secure. You want to make sure it has a very sturdy lock and a deadbolt on it. It needs to be just as secure as your home’s front door.
Six: Always keep your garage door closed even if you will only be gone for a few minutes. Leaving the door open can give burglars a chance to see what is in your garage, they then come back later to break in.
Too many people forget about the security for your garage. You don’t want to be one of them or you may just find your home broken into. So when you are trying to make your home safe, don’t overlook garage security or you may end up regretting it later.
