Nanny cams are a great way for a parent to see what it is like at home while he or she is away.  Sometimes a person' behavior changes when no one is around.

It is estimated that as many as 70% of caregivers lose their jobs because of what parents see on hidden camera videos.  That is an overwhelming statistic as more and more parents get on the nanny cam bandwagon.  But is a nanny cam for your family?  If you are concerned and suspect your child is not being properly treated then the answer might be yes, get a nanny cam for your children's sake.

What is a Nanny Cam and How Does It Work?

By now most know what a nanny cam is but never the less, let us review it.  A nanny cam is a hidden video camera that has been secretly installed within a common household object, such as a plant, clock, radio, stuffed animal, tissue box or kitchen appliances.  The camera is used to secretly monitor and record the activities of a home caregiver.  A nanny cam can come with just video or both video and audio and it can come in black and white or in color.  Some of the small cameras are now very affordable.  The receiver of a nanny cam can be located at a VCR or DVR.  You will even find some nanny cams designed with accompanying software that can be linked to your computer. With this more expensive way, you would have the ability to see what your daycare provider and child is doing in real time.

Wireless or Wired?

In most cases, wireless cameras are preferred over wired ones since there is more of a mess in setting up wired cameras with drilling in walls and running wires.  The wired cameras (because of the wire) are also harder to hide while wireless cameras are more convenient to place in different positions in the house.

Is it Legal?

Nanny cams are legal in all 50 states, however, it is illegal to record speech without a person's consent in the following 15 states: California, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Hawaii, Illinois, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Montana, Nevada, New Hampshire, Oregon, Pennsylvania, and Washington.

Where Can I Get A Nanny Cam?

You can buy common surveillance cameras at most electronic retail outlets or on-line.   However, higher end nanny cams are available at specialty stores or on the internet.  Prices vary depending on your need and overall usage.

Other Uses of a Nanny Cam

A nanny cam is not just used for spying on your nanny.  As a parent you can keep an eye on your baby or spy on your kids if you suspect they are using drugs behind closed doors.  A nanny cam can also be used to monitor the elderly, if you see something wrong you can call for help.  A nanny cam can keep track of a significant other that you feel may be cheating.  It can even help a doctor come up with an initial diagnosis by watching video that was edited by the parent.

Nanny cams are a great way for a parent to see what it is like at home while he or she is away.  Sometimes a person' behavior changes when no one is around.  A nanny cam can ensure that you know what it going on with your nanny and with your child.
